We provide civil and structural consulting services in the following engineering fields:
Infrastructure-
Road and railway structures, mining developments (conveyors, tunnels, plant structures and site works), marine works (jetties, wharves, seawalls and spillways), storage structures, petroleum and liquefied natural gas storage tanks, water tanks, reservoir roof structures and sewage treatment vessels, sport and recreational facilities and structures for heavy lifting equipment. We incorporate materials optimisation, the use of high strength and high performance concrete and specialist applications of prestressing, to improve cost effectiveness and whole of life performance.

Civil engineering-
Motorways, arterial roads, highways, tunnels, drainage design, traffic management and contract management. In the transportation sector, we have delivered significant projects including urban motorways, rural highways, mine access roads, rail station developments, freight haulage and urban passenger railways. Our general civil infrastructure capabilities encompass earthworks, drainage and servicing of residential and industrial land developments, including health precincts.

Building structures-
Including residential (houses, medium density housing, high rise developments and student accommodation), commercial office developments, educational facilities, industrial complexes, marine facilities, retail centres, hospitals and medical centres. In recent years, we have completed a number of major, high rise buildings in both Australia and the Middle East.
Our structural engineers are leaders in the development of construction techniques for buildings – for example, we have been one of the leading exponents in the use of precast concrete for both structural and high quality cladding purposes. We have a proud history of developing projects that include high quality architecture incorporating concrete, steel, timber and masonry. Simplicity and attention to detail are key factors in our designs, coupled with a sound understanding of structural systems, which we apply with flair.

Bridgeworks-
We have a reputation for excellence in bridge engineering. We have designed road and rail bridges in pre-stressed and reinforced concrete, steel and composite construction. Our strong design skills and excellent knowledge of materials technology have enabled us to create attractive and durable structures – even in aggressive marine environments. Our reputation for innovation in bridge design has grown, since we first introduced incremental launching in Australia in 1984. Since then, we have developed a successful construction technique for bridges of all types, including those where difficult circumstances exist, such as over rivers, freeways and operating, electrified rail and for complex alignments and profiles.

Facades-
We provide design advice, thermal and solar performance assessments, design documentation, site inspections and product design. We provide innovative façade solutions. We specialise in the design of aesthetically pleasing, energy efficient and cost-effective facades. We work hard to build strong relationships with the builders, collaborating with them to produce outstanding results that benefit both our client and the project.

Support services-
Litigation support, forensic studies, insurance reports, condition reports, pre-purchase inspections and peer reviews. We have a significant, ongoing role in providing expert construction advice and opinions to developers, loss adjusters, insurance companies and the legal fraternity and an expanding role in general forensic engineering.

We utilise our skills to support our public and private clients across a range of market sectors, including the following: 

Water- 
Including surface water and hydrological analyses, flood studies, water storage and distribution including tankage, drainage and stormwater infiltration systems. Water treatment and distribution.

Resources-
Oil and gas, mining, materials handling projects, including road and rail, bridges, transport related infrastructure, industrial and marine structure, liquefied natural gas storage and containment vessels. Hydrology studies and mine water management.

Transport-
Road and rail design including bridges, earthworks design and drainage, surface water analysis, highway and freeway interchanges and intersection design, traffic studies, planning studies and road safety audits.

My Involvement with BG&E:  Anthony has 18 years experience covering: Planning, Feasibility, Concept, Detailed Design and Delivery of Highway and Civil Infrastructure Projects. He has extensive experience in: Project Management; Design and Planning of complex urban and rural road projects and associated infrastructure.

DAVID FARAH


Position:  Executive Director

Speciality / Area of Expertise: Buildings & Civil Infrastructure

My Involvement with BG&E:  David has a total of 13 years design experience and has been involved in the design, documentation and coordination of a diverse range of civil engineering and building structures in Australia and overseas. He has extensive experience in design development and conceptual civil and structural design for a wide range of structures.
He has also been involved in a very wide range of civil engineering projects including major retaining structures, large water tanks, marine structures, road and rail bridges, materials handling structures, road design and construction and residential land sub-divisions.
David was appointed Executive Director in 2014.  

DONALD MACMILLAN


Position: Director – Buildings 

Speciality / Area of Expertise: Buildings 

My Involvement with BG&E: Donald has over 27 years experience as a structural engineer in the design and project management of healthcare, commercial, residential, industrial buildings and civil infrastructure. He has extensive experience on working with multi-disciplinary teams from design development to detailed design and documentation following through to contract administration and supervision during the construction phase. Donald joined BG&E in 2003, initially as a Design Manager in our Dubai Office and now leads the BG&E Building Group in Perth.

FRANK CERRA


Position:  Managing Director

Speciality / Area of Expertise: Buildings, Structures & Infrastructure

My Involvement with BG&E:  Over twenty five years experience in design & documentation of a diverse range of residential, commercial, industrial, public & civil structures.  Concept, schematic & design development of cost effective building and civil structures, such as complex challenging structures including high rise buildings internationally. 
Technical leadership and management of design teams for large building & civil structures for a wide range of clients internationally.
Corporate responsibility in Director role of BG&E Pty Limited since 2005 and since 2011 Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director role for the BG&E Group.

JOE CATANZARITI


Position:  Director – Eastern Region

Speciality / Area of Expertise: Buildings 

My Involvement with BG&E:  Joe has over 27 years experience in leading engineering teams for the design and construction of major building structures.  With BG&E for 20 years and a Director since 2005, he has extensive experience at a senior level on a range of structural projects and continues to have hands-on involvement from the Concept Design through to Construction stage.
Has been involved in a very wide range of building projects including major high rise office and residential buildings, major commercial and retail centres, hotels, university and school campus buildings and large scale housing developments and major building refurbishments. 

JUDITH UREN


Position:  Executive Director

Speciality / Area of Expertise: Bridges & Specialist Structures

My Involvement with BG&E:  Judith has more than 30 years of knowledge in the design of bridge and civil infrastructure projects. She has been a Director across the BG&E Group since 2000 and leads projects in the Transport, Resource and Oil & Gas sectors.  
She has substantial involvement and experience in alliance and Design & Construction projects and has developed excellent working relationships with Government Authorities, contractors and clients.
Judith has extensive bridge design experience, gained in Australia and overseas and has widespread design and construction experience in infrastructure works as well as management capabilities, including leadership of design teams on large multi-disciplinary projects.  

PATRICK THOMPSON


Position:  Associate 

Speciality / Area of Expertise: Bridges

My Involvement with BG&E:  Patrick has 14 years experience as a structural engineer, spent largely in BG&E’s Bridge Design Section.  BG&E’s bridge design services include waterways analysis, concept design     and planning, detailed design, preparation of specifications and tender documents, review of tenders and provision of technical advice during construction. Patrick has been involved in all these areas, on a variety of large and small projects.

My Involvement with BG&E:  Peter has extensive experience in bridge engineering, having dedicated his professional career to this field.  Peter manages BG&E’s Bridge Group and has significant experience in bridge design, maintenance, asset management and strengthening design, detailed inspection and structural investigation of concrete, steel, composite and timber bridges, preparation of detailed inspection reports and recommended remedial strategies.

PETER DE BRUIN


Position:  Director – Western Region

Speciality / Area of Expertise: Buildings

My Involvement with BG&E:  Peter has 23 years experience as a consulting engineer, specialising in the design and project management of reinforced concrete, structural steel structures and civil works.
Peter has been involved in a very wide range of building projects including industrial, commercial and residential buildings, university and school campus buildings and undertaken project management on a wide range of projects for a number of clients and was responsible for the evaluation of contractors’ payment claims, financial control and administration of the contract.

ROBERT JOHNSON


Position:  Executive Chairman

Speciality / Area of Expertise: Buildings

My Involvement with BG&E:  As a Director of BG&E since 1995 Rob has over 40 years experience as a professional engineer. Since joining BG&E in 1985 he has been involved with the expansion of the group across Australia and into the Middle East.
With a background of extensive experience in leading engineering teams on major projects, Rob is regularly involved at high level with understanding the Clients expectations, project feasibility, concept design and peer review for the Public and Private sectors.
Robert was appointed Executive Chairman in 2014.  

SIMON SHAW


Position:  Director - Civil & Waterways

Speciality / Area of Expertise: Civil

My Involvement with BG&E:  Simon has over 35 years experience as a civil engineer and has been directly responsible for BG&E’s civil engineering since 1985. BG&E’s capacity in civil engineering now includes large scale works such as major urban freeways and Simon has a hands-on involvement in technical matters relating to the delivery of these projects. Simon has a technical and contractual background for projects as both a project leader and as a sub-consultant. He has specialist expertise in drainage, road design, utility service and multimodal transport facilities.
Simon joined BG&E in 1985 and now leads the BG&E Civil and Waterways Group.

YVETTE PRICE


Position:  Chief Financial Officer

Speciality / Area of Expertise: Finance / Corporate Services

My Involvement with BG&E:  Yvette has been responsible for the provision of Support Services for BG&E since joining the firm in 1999 after relocating from interstate. Yvette joined BG&E with experience in both manufacturing and professional services, following service in the Navy as an Officer.
Experience in the implementation of integrated ERP solutions has been used to develop systems and processes to support the growth of the Group.
