BG&E’s Materials Technology team are industry leaders in developing and commercialising the latest technologies for the use of construction materials.

OUR SERVICES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
BG&E was appointed to John Holland’s tender team for the construct only contract for Green Square Library & Plaza. Our role was to assist in the identification of value engineering opportunities and the use of alternative approaches to reduce the timeframe for delivery of the structure. We participated in the ECI workshops run by the City of Sydney, and enabled a number of cost-saving opportunities to be incorporated into what proved to be the winning tender bid. We then provided ongoing support to John Holland during the construction phase, including the installation of remote monitored strain gauges to measure slab movement, design of temporary works, and assistance in the resolution of construction related issues. The project has been delivered ahead of schedule, with demanding quality requirements maintained during construction.
BG&E were engaged to provide inspection and advisory services to the viaduct section (SVC) and the station construction package (OTS) of the Sydney Metro: Northwest project. BG&E deployed a team comprised of materials and structural engineers, with the necessary technical and project experience to complete the required works in a tight timeframe. The team conducted inspections of 900 precast box girder sections, cast in-situ piers and parapet sections along the length of the viaduct. BG&E also provided assistance in the scheduling of precast element production, in order to assist in the delivery of the station structures.
BG&E are provided services as a concrete specialist on the Phase 2 development of the Oyu Tolgoi gold and copper mine in Mongolia. BG&E is assisting the mine operator in reviewing concrete mixes being utilised more than 1 kilometre underground, and advising on the use of additives in concrete for shotcreting operations. This work involves attendance at the mine site to oversee works, inspect defects as they arise, and audit production equipment used in the mine expansion works.
BG&E was appointed by John Holland to advise on durability requirements to achieve the proposed 160-year design life for the structure, which is directly under the Opera House and is permanently exposed to saline water. We also provided various forms of advice relating to the completion of construction works. Services included developing a framework for ongoing testing and defect identification to be integrated in the asset operation and maintenance plan.
100 Mount Street
100 Mount Street is a 44 level tower – the tallest in North Sydney – being developed for commercial and retail use. It features a distinctive megabrace system on the external surfaces of the building, combined with a double skin façade system. Off form concrete finishes are essential to the achievement of the architectural intent. This has led to BG&E providing concrete finish advisory services to the owner and the contractor throughout the construction phase of the project.
City Beach Surf Club
BG&E provided materials engineering services to Christou Design Group in the assessment of the level of compliance of the surface finish to precast panels provided to the project by Austral Precast.
These works included an assessment of the Austral precast production facility and the review of installed precast segments. Post construction BG&E was also involved in the assessment of the level of compliance to the specification with respect the cover to reinforcement for the precast segments and the development of cost effective remedial measures.
